Always nice when spontaneously discovering history locally

Just by walking in the neighbourhood I discovered this street nameplate stating about the history of names of the streets in Riga during periods of Tsarist Russia, Latvian republic and Soviet Union. It tells you something about the history of the town and ethnicity of its citizens. Today the street names are only written in Latvian.

Maurer means on German = mason (English), каменщик (Russian) and mūrnieks (Latvian). The term eela represents the older word for a street in Latvian language.

On the street, there is a small park with a monument dedicated to masons. Also, the street itself has a beautiful architecture.
